This versatile and high-performance E-type lens features an ultra-wide 20mm to 70mm zoom range in a compact, lightweight model that has been carefully designed without compromising image quality, AF performance or movie shooting functionality.

Extraordinary G-series lens image quality

Two AA (advanced aspherical) elements and three ED (Extremely Low Dispersion) glass elements simultaneously correct chromatic and spherical aberration for high optical performance right to the edges of the image, from an ultra-wide 20mm to 70mm. The deep, soft blur effect is enhanced by the 9-blade circular aperture and optimally tuned spherical aberration to create beautiful, memorable images.

Maximum AF performance for stills and videos

Two XD (Extra Dynamic) linear motors provide high thrust for fast, quiet, smooth focusing. Better traction has increased AF speed by up to 60% and tracking performance has been doubled for reliable and accurate tracking. Moving subjects are reliably tracked at up to 30 fps, and high frame rate movies are captured smoothly.

Refined Movie Images

Advanced technology reduces focus jitter and focus and axis shift when zooming to minimize image shift. In addition, this lens is quiet when shooting thanks to XD linear motors and a newly developed diaphragm that dramatically reduces noise and vibration. Breath compensation function is also supported on compatible α series cases.

High-level features and reliability in any environment

The lens is dust and moisture resistant, and its fluorine-coated front element protects against contaminants. All controls, including focus-hold buttons and separate focus, zoom and aperture rings, provide smooth, versatile control when shooting photos or videos. The focus mode switch easily switches between automatic and manual focus.
